Rock Hill Historic District in Rock Hill, SC was designated as a historic district in the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 1978. It spans two city blocks and is located between Main Street to the north and Black Street to the south. The Rock Hill Downtown Historic District features Spanish moss-draped oaks lining brick sidewalks surrounded by classic southern architecture that dates back to pre-Civil War times.

Rock Hill’s downtown area has survived many changes since its inception including a fire that destroyed much of Rock Hill’s business center twice within five years during 1891 and 1895. These fires opened up opportunities for new building designs with more stately homes replacing Victorian row houses along Main street while keeping a closer feel of small-town America Rock Hill is known for. Rock Hill Historic District showcases the best examples of Rock Hill’s commercial buildings including churches, banks, and law firms with their stately architecture that captures Rock Hill, SC history.
